After the lifting of the travel bans imposed by the Turkish government on June 10, 2020, SunExpress has become the first airline to resume its international flights from Antalya, Izmir, and Ankara. The airline will now start to operate a weekly direct scheduled flight to London from Antalya and Gaziantep as of July 10. Having already resumed its flights to the UK from Ankara on July 2 and from Izmir the day after, SunExpress will continue to perform two weekly flights from Izmir and one weekly flight from Ankara to London.
Following the UK government’s decision to include Türkiye (Turkey) in the ‘travel corridor,’ which is being established among several countries, passengers traveling from Türkiye (Turkey) to the UK will be exempt from the quarantine procedure as of July 10. According to the new regulations that will be implemented in the coming days, passengers are no longer required to self-isolate themselves for 14 days if they have not been to another country, which is not included in the travel corridor list within the last 14 days prior to their arrival in the UK.
SunExpress operates daily flights from Antalya to Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich, Stuttgart, and Berlin in Germany and from Izmir to Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Munich, and Stuttgart. Besides Germany, the airline offers flights to many popular destinations in Europe, connecting Antalya to 21, Izmir to 23 and 10 cities in Anatolia, including Adana, Kayseri, Diyarbakır, Ankara, Elazig, Gaziantep, Konya, Malatya, Samsun, and Trabzon to 18 destinations with direct scheduled flights.
SunExpress, an air bridge between Türkiye (Turkey) and Europe, will continue to expand its flight plan and support Turkish tourism as travel restrictions imposed by the countries are lifted.
New safety measures for Covid-19
SunExpress advises its passengers to arrive at the airport three hours before their departure because of hygiene and social distancing rules that are being applied at airports. The airline has taken all necessary measures to provide a healthy and safe flight experience for passengers and crew in close cooperation with the national and international health and aviation authorities.
Wearing face masks is mandatory on board all SunExpress flights. The airline has also updated its in-flight services in a way to minimize contact. While the limited service will only be available for those on flights longer than two hours, SunExpress will no longer serve food and beverages on flights under two hours. According to directives from the relevant authorities, the airline will not accept any cabin baggage on board except essential items such as laptops, handbags, briefcases, or baby items. SunExpress will also distribute disinfectant wipes to its passengers on all flights.
Also, disinfection procedures approved by the international authorities are being carried out regularly on all aircraft in the SunExpress fleet. Each aircraft has the High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtering system that is also found in hospital operating rooms. These filters, which have a 99,9 percent success rate against all known viruses including coronavirus, refresh the air every three minutes from top to bottom during the flight.
Within the scope of the “Hayat Eve Sığar” program implemented by the Turkish Ministry of Health, it will be mandatory for all passengers booked on domestic flights to have a HES code during the Covid-19 pandemic or until further notice. Passengers who are not approved by the Ministry of Health for travel will not be permitted to fly.
