Sunny greetings,
SunExpress Bonus Team
Frankfurt am Main, May 14, 2019 – 20 per cent more capacity compared to last year: Travellers from Dusseldorf can look forward to even more SunExpress flights and destinations in summer: The Joint Venture of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines significantly expands its presence in the capital city of North Rhine-Westphalia due to the high passenger demand and offers a total of 1.2 million seats in the upcoming summer season. This makes SunExpress, that operates flights to 27 destinations in seven countries, a strong third place among the leisure airlines at Dusseldorf Airport.
Beirut and Erbil for the first time
A new addition to SunExpress’ flight schedule from Dusseldorf this summer is Beirut. The Lebanese capital, also called “Paris of the East”, offers a charming Mediterranean promenade and several historic sites in the country side that make for an unforgettable city trip far from the classic destinations. SunExpress operates flights to the modern and liberal metropolis twice a week, each Monday and Friday. For the first time in the carrier’s history of almost 30 years, SunExpress will offer direct flights to Erbil in summer. There will be one weekly flight departing to Northern Iraq each Friday. The flight is mainly aimed at the Iraqi community and thus at the so-called “visiting friends and relatives” segment. The two new additions to the SunExpress route network represent the consistent expansion of the airline’s ethnic traffic strategy.
New destinations in Türkiye (Turkey)
As a specialist for Türkiye (Turkey), SunExpress also expands its offer in the country with two new destinations in Anatolia and one on the Turkish Riviera. Especially for travellers looking to visit their friends and family in Türkiye (Turkey), the new direct flights to Kütahya every Thursday and to Malatya every Saturday offer even more flexible travel options. Moreover, considerably more seats will be offered to the Turkish capital Ankara as well as to Diyarbakir, Konya and Samsun in summer. Izmir – the metropolis in the Turkish part of the Aegean Sea – will be served up to three times each day in the summer peak from Dusseldorf, topped only by Antalya with up to six daily flights. Flights to Alanya, especially popular amongst sunseekers, will be offered once a week, every Wednesday.
Nonstop to the Mediterranean, the Black or the Red Sea
Besides Türkiye (Turkey), SunExpress puts its focus in Dusseldorf on Egypt, Bulgaria and Greece this summer. For instance, the carrier will offer daily flights to Hurghada, unarguably the top destination on the Red Sea among German travellers. In addition, the holiday specialist offers daily flights – except for Saturday – to Varna and Burgas in Bulgaria, an interesting emerging market for the carrier. Crete, Greece’s biggest island is one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean Sea for years. SunExpress offers flights from Dusseldorf to Heraklion each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Passengers can book their trip and flights from Dusseldorf via partner tour operators as well as via www.sunexpress.com.
The carrier operates the largest fleet in its history this year with 84 aircraft. SunExpress also has a long-standing track record of driving innovation in the airline industry and working with start-ups. For instance, SunExpress is the world’s first airline to offer its customers the option of booking flights by voice command via Amazon Alexa. Besides that, the carrier just recently launched a project with food delivery start-up Foodora, where the airline tested a unique choice of modern on-board menus on selected routes. In summer, SunExpress also offers Virtual Reality Entertainment via VR headsets on several flights from Antalya.
