Königswinter – only a stone’s throw away from Cologne or Bonn

From both cities, tourists can take boat trips on the Rhine to participate in a number of cultural leisure activities. Trips to the theatre, opera or concerts are all popular. Anyone wishing to explore the surrounding area will look forward to a trip to the nearby town of Königswinter. Here, tourists can visit the Sea Life aquarium and see around 120 aquatic species – an especially appropriate trip for families with children. Particularly exciting for visitors to the aquarium is a tour through the 360-degree tunnel that offers a breathtaking view of the underwater world. Also worth a visit is the Drachenburg castle, which has been extensively renovated and restored. Adventurous visitors will also have the opportunity to climb the Drachenfels and admire the Rhine valley and the Siebengebirge from the airy heights.

Nearby Brühl is guaranteed to provide many attractions

Fans of art and culture can admire objects of modern art in the Max Ernst Museum, while lovers of Rococo should definitely make a visit to the castles. Both the Augustusburg Palace and the Falkenlust Palace reveal themselves in full splendour and invite visitors to walk the garden grounds, inspired by the French style – these World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO buildings are exceptional. Adventure-seeking tourists, on the other hand, can find everything they want at Brühl’s own Phantasialand. The theme park is varied and offers small car rides in the steam carousel, while more daring visitors can try their hand at the looping rollercoaster or the wild water course.

Bonn – a green paradise

With 80,000 trees, Bonn is a naturally green city. Forest areas and nature parks, such as the Stadtgarten Bonn or the Botanical Gardens, invite you to relax in sunny weather after the arrival of your flight to Bonn. In 1770, Ludwig van Beethoven was born in the quiet city and lived here until he was 22 years old. His birthplace is considered a landmark of the city and the annual Beethoven festival attracts numerous visitors and tourists interested in culture, with a variety of attractions. During an excursion to the Ahr, you can also see a top-secret building dating back to the times of the Cold War: the bunker built to act as the seat of government in the event of nuclear war.

The city on the Rhine for both young and old

If it’s animals you’re looking for, you’ll find them at the Cologne Zoo. As the third-oldest zoo in Germany, the Cologne Zoo is home to more than 500 animals from all over the world, and occupies an area of about 20 hectares. The Lindenthaler Animal Park also invites you to a wonderful excursion in nature. Children can learn much about everyday life through interactive games in the Odysseum in Cologne, meet the mouse from Germany’s “Die Sendung mit der Maus”, and even listen to the stories of the Brothers Grimm in the fairytale forest of Altenberg, near Leverkusen
